Elbow Surge Arrester

Elbow surge arrester offers shielded deadfront arrester protection with metal oxide varistor elbow, along with parking stand arresters. It allows the installation on standard separable connector bushings and its primarily used to protect underground distribution systems.

The installation is done at the open point of underground system to avoid doubling of the voltage wave. It can also be installed at the middle point to harmlessly discharge voltage reflections from the open point arrester.

Constructed from peroxide cured EPDM rubber, the housing of elbow surge arrester is completely shielded with a molded conductive EPDM jacket to facilitate the concept of dead front. The EPDM rubber is also fully submersible for various applications.

The designs of 27kV, 18kV and 10kV rated arresters are used on nominal 35kV, 25kV and 15kV UD systems, respectively. These three ratings entail standard ANS/IEEE 386 separable connector interface designs whose compatibility aligns with each voltage level of major interface suppliers.
