Spiral Vibration Damper
Spiral vibration dampers limit and reduce the impact caused to fragile outdoor electrical structures from the motion produced during harsh weather. They also help to increase their long-term resilience.
Made from waterproof PVC, the spiral vibration damper is the ideal solution to ensure affordable and lasting protection for various outdoor telecommunications systems, and minimising the long-term damage to exposed wires and cables.
Its clever coil design ensures a more effective shielding against vibrational impact, and also encourages a maximum degree of even energy dissipation throughout.
Its unique spiral-shaped interior damping section also allows for a secure grip, whilst its elegant and slender shape allows it to blend in effortlessly once fixed in place.
This type of damper is especially effective for overhead shield wires, optical ground wires (OPGW), and delicate cables and conductors up to 0.75” in diameter.
As a professional manufacturer, supplier, and exporter, Rax Industry can support all sizes of Spiral Vibration Dampers, we can also customize them according to your designs.

Spiral Vibration Damper- A Simple Guide
Communication connectors like wires are made of very fragile materials. So, during harsh or unstable weather such as hot sun or snowy periods, fragile electrical structures or wires can stretch or contract which can shorten their lifespan.
The spiral Vibration Damper is a DIY – Do-it-yourself telecommunication device. But sometimes may require the help of a trained expert and not someone who is not familiar with it.
If handled and installed with care and in good condition, Spiral Vibration Damper is reusable.

What is a spiral vibration damper?
Spiral vibration damper helps to reduce the effect of harsh weather on your outdoor electrical structures or connectors. By reducing the impacts, the electrical connectors become more resistant. They also last longer even during the changing weather of the place.
SVDs are manufactured from non-abrasive material which allows the cable sheath to maintain its quality. They help to reduce Aeolian (wind-like) vibrations that happen on the communication line. They do this by absorbing and distributing the vibration throughout the damping area of the helix.
What is the function of the spiral vibration damper?
Because they are produced using PVC, Vibration dampers do typically one thing, and that is to reduce Aeolian vibration. Over some time, weather-induced vibration can result in damage-causing abrasion.
Abrasion means the surface wear-out of the conductor and is usually because of a loosen connection between the hardware or other hardware fittings.
With the spiral vibration damper, this typical problem is altogether prevented.
Furthermore, the Spiral Vibration Dampers also serve as overhead shield wires. They shield all kinds of outdoor telecommunication systems from damage caused by vibration.
The nomenclature of Spiral Vibration Damper
This is the breaking down of a typical SVD.
The length: It helps to identify the size of the conductor
The damping section: It is a helix-shaped material that works like an interplay between the damper and the conductor. It also provides the action movement which counters the vibration wave.
Gripping section: The spiral vibration damper has a helix-shaped design to the grip conductor. This section softly grips the cable by holding the damper without destroying the cable.
Spiral Vibration Damper assemble
Note that the spiral vibration damper is meant to be installed near the following;
- armour rods
- cable suspension
- dead ends
- or other electrical hardware.
Although they are to be installed near, the spiral Vibration Damper should not have any possible contact with the above mentioned.
How to install the Vibration Damper assemble?
The installation of the spiral vibration damper normally should be based on a particular manufacturer’s recommendation, especially the All-Dielectric Self Support (ADSS). It is a recommendation as there are some manufacturers’ specifications as to how best to install their product. But typically, most SVD follows the same procedure for installation. However, consider the following simplified steps to have a grasp of how you can install the spiral vibration damper.
#1. Install the ADSS cable on any of the anchor points along the line. The ADSS cable can also be installed between poles where the connector will wrap around. Remember to check the manufacturer’s recommendation on this if needed.
#2. Next to the installed ADSS cable, hold the Spiral Vibration Damper with the helix end far away from you. Hold it far away and maintain the widen damping section closest to you.
To identify the accurate spacing at the beginning of the installation is easy. Just install the SVD on a line that gives around 8inches from each end of the armour rods. If you’re also using other hardware like suspension clamps or deadends, make sure you have 8inches spacing for the SVD.
#3. Then, insert the final step to install the Spiral Vibration Damper is to insert the gripping section into the ADSS cable and wrap it around it until the ADSS cable is covered with the spiral Vibration damper. Ensure the full length of the SVD covers the ADSS cable.
The installation process of your SVD is as simple as following the three steps above.
Key features and Specification
Spiral Vibration Dampers have several features that are sometimes not mentioned here;
- It is non-metallic compared to others.
- It has a reliable weather resistance feature. And this is because it’s made of PVC material as it doesn’t stretch or contract.
- It’s easy and safe to install. As was mentioned in the introduction, it’s a do-it-yourself device. Once you’re familiar and can follow the installation process explained above, you’re good to go.
- Highly effective during varying frequencies. Regardless of the frequencies, it maintains a stable transmission level.
- It reduces weather-induced (Aeolian) vibrations that can damage the inner coil.
- Highly suitable for cables including ADSS up to 0.75 inches.
- Its coil design is conduction-friendly.
- Its dimension is 65inches in length and 1.374lb in weight.
- It has no clamping pressure that can destroy the guy wires.
- Even on cables with smaller diameters, it efficiently reduces vibration.
Spiral Vibration Dampers are quite more effective than other types of dampers. Spiral Vibration Dampers give electrical connectors affordable and durable protection. They have proven highly effective for more than 35 years to provide control of Aeolian vibration on small wire and conductor sizes. They are durable, affordable, and can be installed with minimum effort.
