Anchor Rod Extension
An anchor rod extension is a cylindrical piece of metal used to make above-grade connections between guy wires and installed anchors.
Anchor rod extensions have many applications in building construction, highway construction, industrial, bridge construction, towers and antennas, wind turbines, and seismic retrofitting. They are widely used in utility and telephone poles installation.
An anchor rod extension has three parts – the cylindrical middle portion, the drop-forged eye, and the clevis end.
The eye of the anchor rod attaches to the clevis end of the anchor rod extension and guy wire strands pass through the drop-forged eye depending on the design of the eye. Most standard drop-forged eyes have a Tripleye or Thimbleye design.
The main function of anchor rod extensions is to uniformly distribute pulling stresses over each attached guy wire strand. They ensure the guy wires do not bend, kink, or spread. An anchor installer can also attach an extension to the anchor rod when greater depths are necessary to reach firmer soil during installation.
An anchor rod extension works as a connection between guy wires and installed anchors. This connection is needed when the eye of the leading anchor rod is at or below grade. The connection is also made for deeper installation depths.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
This is a hot-dip galvanized cylindrical device used as a connection between an installed anchor and guy wire strands. The connection is made when the eye of the anchor is at or below grade. Anchor rod extensions are largely used in anchorage applications in different industries. These applications include utility poles and power line anchor rod extensions. They typically have a clevis end and a Tripleye drop-forged eye design. They can easily be identified by their size (length and diameter of the rod in inches). Each anchor rod extension has its strength rating in pounds. Besides, they have a quick and easy installation. What is an Anchor Rod Extension?

Dimensions of Anchor Rod Extensions
Anchor rod extensions have a standard design that features an elongated cylindrical part, a clevis end (nut and bolt), and a forged drop eye. What makes each type stand out is the size of the anchor rod extension. Here are the most popular anchor rod extension sizes on the market:
● 1-1/4” x 24”
This anchor rod extension has a diameter of 1-1/4 inches and it’s 24 inches long.
● 1-1/4” x 36”
This extension for an anchor rod is 36 inches long and has a diameter of 1-1/4 inches.
● 1-1/4” x 72”
With this size, the extension is 72 inches long and 1-1/4 inches in diameter.
All three types of anchor rod extensions have two things in common – the same diameter size of 1-1/4 inches and a Tripleye drop forged eye design.
